Lent for Everyone – Luke, Year C (A Daily Devotional)
The season of Lent is almost upon us! The start date for Lent this year is next Wednesday, March 5th. Throughout church history Lent has been a 40 day season of preparing for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Christ at Easter. If you aren’t familiar with this season on the church calendar, here’s a quick description from Paul Tripp:
“Lent is about remembering the suffering and sacrifice of the Savior. Lent is about confessing our ongoing battle with sin. Lent is about fasting, and not just from food; we willingly and joyfully let go of things in this world that have too much of a hold on us. And Lent is about giving ourselves in a more focused way to prayer, crying out for the help that we desperately need from the only one who is able to give it.”

The Lenten devotional we are recommending for 2025 is titled Lent for Everyone – Luke, Year C (A Daily Devotional) by N. T. Wright. Each day’s entry includes a scripture reading from Luke, a short devotional passage, and a brief prayer. If you do the longer readings, you will read through all of Luke’s Gospel during Lent, which would be a great review of our preaching over the past year! You can purchase the devotional from booksellers online including Amazon. (Be sure to purchase the correct book! There are several others that have similar titles!)

It is a simple way of gather with your family to read scripture and pray together during this season. You can get the free “Lenten Lights” devotional by Noël Piper free here.
