The Oak Tree’s Rebuttal

Read: Romans 1:18-25

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Corem Deo

There is a gargantuan lie being perpetrated all over the world.  The Truth is being suppressed in every country by every people group.  All men are without excuse to this miscarriage of justice, and creation itself holds us all in contempt.  I could direct you to immediately head to the nearest oak tree and behold the breadth of the reach of its limbs and the area of the shadow it casts!  But there’s more: get closer and see the robin who has built a home in the fork of two limbs 20 feet high.  Watch as she feeds the noisy hatchlings stretching their newborn heads to the sky with beaks cracked wide open.  Get close enough to put your hands on the massive tree trunk and study its texture and the vertical lines of its bark.  Notice the micro ecosystem of ants and other small insects carrying pieces of leaf stems and acorn shavings up and down the microscopic interstate.  Now look down and pick up one of those small acorns lying on the ground and contemplate that this glorious tree, which provides you with shade, the robin with a home, and the ants with an interstate, came from that quarter sized nut in your hand.

There is a gargantuan lie being perpetrated all over the world that there is no God.  Creation is screaming otherwise, if we have ears to listen.  To have your mind further blown, take 12 minutes and follow Louie Giglio as he takes us from studying our oak tree to exploring our world and the Milky Way Galaxy.
