Facet of Christ (Day 88)
He will never disappoint us or underwhelm us. As much as we leverage our longings onto him, he will fulfill them, and more than fulfill them. (Luke 9.17) Dane Ortlund 17Â And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces. (Luke 9:17)
Facet of Christ (Day 87)
That grace is (2 Cor 12) sufficient. It needs no me-generated supplement. All he requires is need. Nothing more, nothing less. The bar of divine grace is low, so low that the proud cannot get under it. (James 4.6 Dane Ortlund 6Â But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, âGod opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.â (James 4:6)
Facet of Christ (Day 86)
He loves weakness. He works with weakness. That qualifies me for his grace. You feel the same way. (2 Cor. 12.9-10) Dane Ortlund 9 But he said to me, âMy grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.â Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9-10)
Facet of Christ (Day 85)
Not only forsaken by his friends, but by God. He knows what it is to feel forsaken by God, because he knows what it is to be forsaken by God (âMy God, my GodâŠâ). So that you and I are never actually forsaken, even when we feel forsaken. (Mark 15.34) Dane Ortlund 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, âEloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?â which means, âMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?â (Mark 15:34)
Facet of Christ (Day 84)
And they all left him and fledâ (Mark 14:50). Had he lived today, every last Twitter follower would have un-followed him. The maximum number of friends you can have on FB is 5,000. Well, he fed 5,000. I bet all 5,000 would have accepted his FB friend request. And all 5,000 would have eventually un-friended and blocked him. So that he could be your and my ever-present friend, saying (Heb 13:5): âI will never leave you nor forsake youâ Dane Ortlund 5Â Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has
Facet of Christ (Day 83)
His first miracle in Jn 2 (John makes point of calling it his âchief/beginningâ miracle) is turning water to wine at a wedding party. Then at the end of Rev we see a wedding party between Jesus and his bride, you and me. Every wedding is a pointer to THE Wedding that will explode onto the scene of world history very soon, and last forever. (Rev. 19.6-10) Dane Ortlund 6Â Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
Meditation and Preparation – Aug 25th
In April of this year, Southeastern Seminary published an article about two former North Wakers who have "Entered-missions" by seeking to make Jesus known in Washington DC through normal acts of hospitality. Read the article below and be encouraged to Entermission with them. https://www.sebts.edu/news-and-events/headlines/2024/04/go-make-disciples-pursuing-hearts-through-hospitality/
Facet of Christ (Day 82)
He has put that nail-scarred arm around us as we stumble toward heaven, and he will never loosen his grip. (Heb. 13.5-6; John 10.28-29) Dane Ortlund 5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, âI will never leave you nor forsake you.â 6 So we can confidently say, âThe Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?â (Hebrews 13:5-6) 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than
Facet of Christ (Day 81)
He said, on the cross, with nail-pierced arms outstretched, âIt is finished.â We exhausted sinners are free to rest in his exhaustive work. (John 19.30; Heb. 10.12-14) Dane Ortlund 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, âIt is finished,â and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30) 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being
Facet of Christ (Day 80)
The incarnation of God among us means that ultimate reality is not cold, dark, space, but love. The Son of God came to us as the overflow of intra-trinitarian love. (John 15.9; Rom. 5.5) Dane Ortlund 9Â As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. (John 15:9) 5Â and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5)
