This past Sunday, Jan. 26th, I preached on Ps.23 in the services at North Wake. If you would like to think a bit more deeply about this amazing little 6-verse Psalm, here are some resources I have found helpful in my study and reflections:
RESOURCES:
- The Lord of Psalm 23 by David Gibson — A highly praised commentary for any student of Psalm 23. I am reading it now and it is very helpful. If you have to read just one resource on Ps. 23, this would be my recommendation.
- Sermons on Psalm 23 – by John Piper — John Piper preached two helpful sermons on Ps. 23. You can read or listen to them here.
- A Sheep Remembers by David B. Calhoun — This is a devotional work by a seminary professor who battled a terminal cancer diagnosis for 30 years. It contains truly remarkable wisdom and insight that could only come from such a journey.
- The Lord is My Shepherd: Psalm 23 for the Life of the Church by Richard S. Briggs — This is the most insightful commentary I have read on Ps. 23. It is quite academic however and is best suited for those who have those leanings.
- The Good Shepherd: a Thousand Year Journey from Psalm 23 to the New Testament by Kenneth E. Bailey — Bailey traces echoes of Psalm 23 throughout the shepherding passages of both the Old and New Testaments. Again, a pretty academically oriented work, but full of valuable insights on the breadth of Ps. 23’s influence.
