As we study the gospel of Luke this year, here are some resources to help you as you study along!
Background/Overview:
- Bible Project Video: another creative overview of the book of Luke (plus other helpful resources!) by the folks at the Bible Project!
- The Gospel of Luke in 7 Minutes: a high energy creative overview of Luke in – you guessed it – 7 minutes!
- The Gospel of Luke video by the Lumo Project: the Lumo Project has created a video reading of all 4 gospels. They use middle eastern actors in a middle eastern setting with the narrator only using the words of scripture. Very well done and insightful. Great for families or Grow Group discussions as well as personal reflection!
Online Free Study Courses:
The Gospel Coalition offers 3 courses on Luke – one of which features a workbook based on video lectures by D. A. Carson.
Commentaries:
- Free Online Commentary on the Gospel Coalition website from Peter G. Bolt
- Free Kindle Commentary by 19th century pastor J. C. Ryle. More devotional. Full of insights!
- The Pillar Commentary on the Gospel of Luke by James Edwards. A bit on the technical side, but very engaging and insightful! Decidedly NOT free!
- The IVP New Testament Commentary Series by Darrell L. Bock. A good balance of academic and pastoral (aka scholarly but readable).
- Luke: the Gospel of Amazement by scholar-musician Michael Card. A devotional commentary – not very detailed but rich with reflective insights!
Sermons:
- Sermon Series on Luke by John Piper
- Sermon Series on Luke by Restoration Church, NW’s church plant in Washington, DC!
- North Wake Sermons by Carson Cobb and Others – if you miss a week or want to review you can catch it here!
