This day, we commemorate the day that our sin killed Jesus. His death hardly seems “good” — so 15 North Wakers gave me their reasons on what’s so Good about Good Friday.

Dani Lynn Black: The death of Jesus is good because it reveals to us the love and kindness of our Father God, the glory that only He deserves, and a way to be heirs with Christ (children of the one and only God).

Scott Brazil: The crushing of God’s Son was good for believers who now receive peace with God instead. (Isaiah 53:5)

Jason Burgess: [Jesus’s death] Paved the way for we undeserving sinners to be made right before God.

Blake Grubbs: It’s good because what man meant for evil, God meant for good (Genesis 50:20) to bring about the redemption and restoration of His people in a fallen and broken world.

Daniel Jones: The death of Jesus is good because it gives us a life we could never deserve.

Noah Joyner: The death of Jesus disarms death’s power over us… his resurrection guarantees our resurrection and eternal life.

Stephanie Joyner: A good God made a good way for not so good people to be with Him forever??

Mary Katherine Lassetter: Reconciliation and restoration of relationship with our Heavenly Father were only able to be achieved through God’s own perfect Son, who despised the shame but loving the sinner willingly became the sacrifice so that we could become children of God.

Jerry Lassetter: It pays my sin debt and places me in a right relationship with the Father.

Mark Liederbach: It accorded with, pleased, and appeased the Trinity. (That is a freight-loaded sentence!)

Ben Merkle: It’s good because Jesus paid for our sins restoring our relationship with God, and his death is always celebrated with Resurrection Sunday in mind.

Kim Morrisette: As painfully necessary as it was, Jesus endured the cross, despising its shame because he knew what was on the other side: the fullness of Joy, purification for sin, and fellowship at the right hand of the father. That is good. (Hebrews 1:3 and 12:2.)

Kyle Smith: The death of Jesus is good because through his shed blood, propitiation is made for human sin, and redemption is made possible. The resurrection of Jesus is necessary for, through his new life, our own new life is found, and regeneration is made possible.

Sam Williams: Because it is the death of death.

Travis Williams: Jesus’ death is the destruction of the Devil and the deliverance of slavery. Hebrews 2:14-15.
